Wallidan FC and the reigning champions, Fortune FC have both won their first game of the second round fixtures, while Gamtel FC and Banjul United conceded defeats during their week-16 fixtures of the GFF Second Division League played over the weekend.
Wallidan defeated Banjul United 2-1 during the late week-16 fixture played at the Stadium on Friday.
Banjul United opened the scoring through Momodou Jatta’s finish in the early 5th minute of the game. Wallidan came from behind to collect the maximum points after Ablie Manke scored the equalizer in the 50th minute, before Adama Sambou scored the winner in the 68th minute.
Banjul United finished the game with 10-men after having their players sent-off for second booking in the 85th minute of the game.
The Blue Boys, Wallidan FC who collected their sixth victory of the season now moved 5th position with 22 points, leveling with Gamtel FC, while Banjul United who conceded their sixth defeat of the season dropped to 11 position with 19 points.
Elsewhere, Fortune FC defeated Gamtel FC 1-0 during the late encounter of the week-16 fixture played at the Stadium on Thursday.
Patrick Sylva scored the only goal in the match for Fortune FC after converting from the penalty spot in the 17 minute of the first half.
The defending champions, Fortune FC now registered their sixth win of the season, while the Telecom Giants, Gamtel FC suffered their sixth loss of the season.
The victory moved the Petroleum boys, Fortune to 7th position with 21 points, one point behind Gamtel FC who occupied 6th position with 22 points, leveling with Waa Banjul.
Samger FC were held to a 1-1 draw by Team Rhino in their week-16 fixtures of the league at the Stadium on Thursday.
Lamin Jassey gave Samger the lead with a wonderful left-footed strike to the top right of the goalkeeper in the 29 minute of the first half, before Team Rhino came with the leveler through Buba Hydara’s header in the 64 minute of the second half to force into a draw.
The Cherno Samba Academy boys, conceded their sixth draw of the league, while the Wellingara-based team, Team Rhino registered their eighth draw of the season.
The draw left Samger FC at 13 position with 18 points, leveling with GPA, while Team Rhino dropped back into the relegation zone (15th) position with 14 points.
Waa Banjul also played a 1-1 draw against the Gambia Ports Authority (GPA) in a Banjul-derby played at the Stadium on Friday.
The Ferry boys, GPA took the lead through Assan Jawo’s header from a corner in the 23rd minute of the game. Waa Banjul restored purity after Modou Lamin Bah’s striker from a set-piece in the 44th minutes before going for the break.
Waa Banjul now collected their tenth draw of the season, while the Gambia Ports Authority (GPA) conceded their six draw of the season.
Waa Banjul who collected four wins, now occupied 5th position with 22 points, leveling with Gamtel FC, while GPA who registered four victories, sit 12th position with 18 points, leveling with Samger FC.
