The Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs is set to replace APRC’s unattained vision 2020 with vision 2050 as a long-term development vision.
The Ministry’s official, Samba Jallow told a consultative meeting held with journalists at Region II Educational Directorate offices in Jeshwang.
He said in his address that the consultative meeting is centred on the formulation of two very important development planning frameworks for the Gambia.
“These frameworks are the recovery focuses on national development plan which will run from 2023 to 2027 and the long-term development vision which will succeed vision 2020, we are referring to as Vision 2050,” he explained.
He emphasised that as “representative of various media outlets in The Gambia with both a local and international, you can play a great role in ensuring that you do not only contribute to the Gambia we want in the next five years and well as in the next fifty years, but also you use all the tools at your disposal to sensitise Gambians as well as all stakeholders to ensure they all participate and contribute in this very important national exercise,” he added.
Meanwhile, Samba Sowe, principal planner at the Ministry of Finance said they have engaging in vigorous consultation across the country and that they have the national level consultation which they are presently conducting. Also, they have done a regional consultation that includes ward-to-ward consultation.
“This time around, the Ministry of Finance through the development planning directorate felt it needed to diversify the consultation across the stakeholders. That’s why we deemed it fit to include the media because they are playing a crucial role in terms of information dissemination, this cannot be overemphasised.”
