Dr Ismaila Ceesay, party leader of Citizen’s Alliance (CA) has said APRC still has the chance to win back its seat in Foni in the next elections.
“No political party can claim ownership of Foni for now. We have always thought that Foni is the best rock for the APRC but also no political party won in the Foni. Foni was only won by an independent candidate.
“If you remember, in The Gambia political parties that were once in power in The Gambia they erode but APRC is still here they have seats in the National Assembly the future might be bright for them depending on the relationship they have with the NPP and put or make it into good use,” Ceesay explained.
According to him Over 55%-60% of voters live within KM, Banjul and West Coast Region so what should worry NPP is that they were able to secure only one seat. But was quick to say the voter turnout was also very low, especially in these three constituencies.
“Past political apathy people have lost faith in the system after elections. We see how the cost of living increases. There is some form of insecurity in governance in this country. So, perhaps maybe people don’t want to vote or voted without knowing the candidate,” he added.
He went on, the NPP also lost in these constituencies because the presence of the independent candidates put the votes away from them and also the presence of the new political party like Citizen Alliance.
Meanwhile, he said the constitution is very clear as it gives the president the power to nominate five people. .
“I think Gambia is not a country where we should continue to punish people for the rest of their lives. People make mistakes and they should be given a second chance. Anybody deserves a second chance to serve their country.
“If President Barrow thinks he has the confidence in these five people to serve his interest at the National Assembly and nominated them then that’s ok,” he said
