Operatives of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency (DLEAG) in Sibanor have arrested and detained Nfansu Jarju, 43, of Brikama with 20 litres gallon of suspected cannabis.
“Two twenty litres gallon filled with suspected cannabis sativa was seized by DLEAG’s Sibanor field office on the 7 May 2022 at around 12:37 hours GMT onwards at Tampoto village, Coast Region. The said oil gallons in which the suspected cannabis sativa was concealed had been emptied, properly cleaned and stuffed with suspected illicit drugs.
“43 years old Gambian National and a resident of Brikama in the person of Nfansu Jarju was taken into custody for possession of the said suspected prohibited drugs. The discovery seems to indicate the resurgence of a typical concealment method employed by drug traffickers to evade law enforcement officials. Prior to this burst, operatives registered a case involving similar concealment method,” the agency disclosed.
“The only difference is that the smugglers in the previous case created an opening at the bottom of the twenty litres gallons, stuffed them with suspected prohibited and controlled drugs and hid them among consignments of palm kernel oil. Smugglers had also wrapped controlled drugs with plastic papers and concealed them inside twenty litres palm kernel oil in another case involving the same modus operandi.
This is in addition to the different concealment methods, means of conveyance and trafficking routes used by these traffickers. It therefore becomes very difficult for law enforcement operatives to detect their illicit clandestine criminal activities without the support and cooperation of the public. Everyone needs to be at alert and report suspicious activities to law enforcement officials,” DLEAG added.
“With the current happenings across the globe regarding the dealing and trafficking in illicit drugs vis a vis the emerging trends and the advent of New Psychoactive Substances (NPS) we all need to be vigilant and extra alert. The discovery of suspected prohibited and controlled drugs hidden in consignments of charcoals, car engines, Ambulances, Banks cash transportation vehicles, baby diapers, wrappers of suckling babies, wheel chairs and pillows of differently able persons, minors etc manifest the adamants of these perilous people to promote their illicit trades at all cost. We must also therefore continue to renew and strengthen our resolve to bridle this scourge.
“The Management and operatives of the Agency remain committed more than ever to ensure that we fulfil our mandate as provided for in the DCA 2003. Our success in this noble crusade to a great extent depends on public participation, collaboration and the sharing of information. We are therefore urging anyone who notices suspicious drugs or criminal related activities to report such matters to law enforcement officials. It is only through collective participation and collaboration that we can keep our community healthy, safe and drug free,” the agency added.
