Imam Baba Leigh, an Islamic scholar and human rights activist has said politicians are fooling the imams, adding human being is covered with politics including Imams because imams are human beings and politicians are fooling the imams.
Speaking to The Voice he said: “Politicians are fooling the Imam’s, they only tell you (that) you should not involve in politics when you are against them but when you support their party and support them, they say oh imam you are right you are very knowledgeable.
“Imams are citizens like you imam should be concerned about what is coming in and out of this country, Imams should be concerned about the welfare of his nation and now you are telling me that I should not put my influence to whom I am going to send to the parliament to represent me, my welfare and the welfare of my kids you are telling me you should not involve who tells you that?”
According to him, even Islam has its own politics what Imam is not expected to do is kind of pity politics insulting each other. They are not expected to do that because Imams in their mosques, all parties pray behind them and it is an obligatory to those who pray behind their imams to respect and trust them.”
But “Unfortunately because of evil thinking and evil manifestation in our politics when you realize that your Imam is UDP, and you are not in favour of that party, you are not willing to listen to them, if your Imam is NPP and you are not in favour of that party, you are not willing to listen to them. All those things are immature democracy, immature understanding of politics,” Imam Leigh hit it rightly.
However, he went on that looking at the name of politics in Islamic point of view they call it ‘Beauty of Achievement’ because before this kind of politics if you want to lead a nation, you have to use the sword and the gun to become the president or the leader but that scenario has changed.
Meanwhile, he also added that “Islam does not recommend leaders to be publicly reduce in our sermons in our social medias. Leaders have special positions in Islamic point of view in our society so naming a president and reducing him in your ‘Khutba’ is a crime. An issue that can insight fitnah should not be discussed on pulpit.”
