Neneh Freda, a defeated contestant in the last held National Assembly election for Serrekunda West, has insisted that President Adama Barrow cannot end corruption within 5years.
“He has been muted about it and never says anything about it. So, finally, I guess he has the realization that this is an issue that is worth talking about and addressing it and he said it. To say something and to act is different because my problem is that he said so many things that he never implements,” she said.
According to her, to take action will be a problem because President Barrow cannot just end corruption within these five years.
She said at the moment, what President Barrow can do is to get competent people that have the knowledge in that area and put the system in place, the structures, and the way forward to fight this corruption.
“That is where they should start. For him, he cannot do anything regarding that because if he himself wants to start, he is going to start with himself because it is over 5years now and there are things that need to be done that never take place. So it will be a problem,” she added.
Meanwhile, she welcomed the ideas and hopes that he (Barrow) surrounds himself with people that have the political will that is “the only thing he can do right now because a lot of things have been destroyed in this country.”
She added on that “People should not have a high hope that they can do it because at the end of the day people will say he said he is going to fight corruption but he did not do it. They should know that he has the intention and the will to fight it but not something that can be fought today or tomorrow because it is a process and has to be collaborative,” she said.
