NPP to put up Mayoral candidates in KMC and Banjul in 2023

National People’s Party has announced that it will put up Mayoral candidates in Banjul and Kanifing Municipality for the council and local governmentelections due in 2023.

Pa Njie Girigara, key figure in Barrow’s party made the declaration and warned any party in coalition with NPP that would force its way and put candidate will tantamount to violation of their agreement.

“I just want to talk about the upcoming Mayoral election in KMC and Banjul and want to let Gambians know that NPP will put up candidates in KMC and Banjul, but the unveiling of the names of candidates is yet to come because the election is 2023,” he warned.

“We want to make it clear to any politician and Gambian that NPP will put up its candidates in Banjul and KMC, and any party that wants to go with us on that you are welcome, but any party that force its way and put up its own candidates then that means you are no more in coalition with us.

“We all have seen what happened during the `National Assembly election, we all know, there were some parties who were with us but they didn’t campaign for our candidates we put them up in KMC and Banjul in the National Assembly election,” he disclosed.

“I will mention, Dodou Jah has appeared in two media platforms and say, APRC will put up a candidate, it’s their right but if there is an agreement between two parties, should one person come out and speak on behalf of a party. Is that the agreement? Because we didn’t hear from the speaker of the house who is the party leader of APRC and we didn’t hear from Rambo Jatta, his deputy.

“And DodouJah’s declaration is bringing confusion between the NPP-APRC coalition, and we believe if what DodouJah is saying is not an official statement of APRC, we are asking him to back to the media and say we have not decided on putting up a candidate. I believe that APRC has all rights to distance themselves from what DodouJah is saying in the media so that people can know APRC executive stand. But if that doesn’t happen, why isDodouJah almost every day goes to the media platforms, if he continues to say such things, it will bring more confusion between our relationship,” he explained.
