Stakeholders task VPJoof to intervene in higher and tertiary institutions problem

Alieu BadaraJoof, vice president has been urged to help find solutions to problems facing the higher education sector by addressing problems facing students of the University of The Gambia, Gambia College and other tertiary institutions.

According to Momodou Ebrima Cham popularly known as MC Cham Jnr, despite welcoming his appointment as apt, he urged him to help address the challenges facing the higher education sector.

“We have seen Barrow appoint a vice president who pleased Gambians because he has the academic qualification and the knowledge, and no one has ever heard him involved in any wrongdoings.

“But let us reflect our minds back that this vice president was the minister of higher education and I hopeful that the challenges facing the students of university during his time as minister of higher education will be addressed,” he said.

“If you can remember many students were having classes under the mango trees due to shortage of classrooms. And how the students of Gambia College were struggling,” he added.

However, he said: “we didn’t expect the likes of Honourable Hamat Bah to retain his position in the new cabinet appointed by Barrow, because nothing has been done to improve the tourism sector throughout his five years in office. His comeback is political because everybody knows what Barrow needed in the parliament, he didn’t get that number and he needs the four MPs of NRP.”

“If you come to the health sector, everybody taught Dr.Samateh would not come back to the new cabinet because Dr Samateh is the first person who stood and say there is corruption in his ministry at the National Assembly and he has not taken any action to address that problem.
