Banjul Mayor heaps praise on Gambians for victory in Kenya

By Adama Makasuba

Honorable Rohey Malick Lowe, Mayor of Banjul has heaped praises on Gambians especially on President Adama Barrow and his government and leader of United Democratic Party, Lawyer Ousainou Darboe for her victory in Kisumu, Kenya.

Mayor Lowe has recently been elected as the new president of the Network of Locally Elected Women of Africa (REFELA), which brings together women members of political bodies responsible for the governance of African cities and regional authorities.

“I thank the whole Gambia because what Gambia has done for me is enormous. And I thank my father, lawyer Ousainou Darboe and the entire United Democratic Party for their support,” she said.

“And I thank my brother His Excellency President Adama Barrow for his enormous support to me in getting this victory. To be honest, when I received this document, I called Makumba Sanneh and told her how this issue is going because this is about the whole Africa. And she told me to go to my father and explain it to him for solution and I went to my father, Ousainou Darboe and I explained it to him and he told me you are in a good relation with your brother, he will surely help you by God’s grace,” she stated.

“And when I arrived at President Adama Barrow’s office and told him this is what I need, he didn’t even hesitate because he said it is in the best interest of the country. He wrote a letter to Dr Tangara and Mambury Njie [former Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs] and told them to do anything they can do for me to get the position,” she added.

She, therefore, called for unity among Gambians, saying “that’s why I say let us come together and be one people, it is very important. You see, if we are united, The Gambia can get a lot of things.”
