The Gambia senior national team Coach Tom Saintfiet yesterday, on Monday, released a 25-man squad to represent Gambia in upcoming friendly games against UAE and Afcon qualifiers against South Sudan next month.
Barry, 27, returns to reignite his international career following a two and a half year absence due to a serious knee injury.
“We’re very happy with the return of Hamza Barry he’s a very good football player and yeah, I think we missed him for sure in the Africa Cup of Nations but also don’t forget there’s also the return of Ablie Jallow,” Saintfiet said.
“Ablie was not there against Cameroon and Chad and he has also proven before the AFCON and during the tournament to be a very important player for the team.
The Scorpions go to camp on 25th May when they will fly to Dubai for a friendly international with the United Arab Emirates A National Team on May 29.
UAE is currently ranked 68 on the FIFA rankings and is playing in the final playoff qualifiers against Australia for a place in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The Gambia will then begin its quest for a second straight appearance at the African Cup of Nations when it hosts South Sudan in the 2023 qualifiers in Senegal on June 4 and then play away to Congo on June 8 in Brazzaville.
While The Gambia currently sit 123 position in the FIFA Rankings, South Sudan occupied 161 and Congo on 98 position.
