Hawks FC moved to the top of the GFF First Division League table after defeating one of their nearest challengers Brikama United 2-0 during their week-20 fixture played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau, on Monday.
Lamin Jarjue opened the scoring for Hawks FC after converting a penalty spot in the 20th minute before Omar Sarr doubled their lead two minutes later.
The Banjul-based team Hawks FC now collected their twelfth win of the season, more than any other team in the division one league, while the Sateba Boys, Brikama United suffered their second defeat of the league.
Hawks FC overall collected twelve wins, three draws and five defeats, while Brikama Brikama United overall registered eight wins, ten draws and two defeats after 20 games for each.
The victory now sent Hawks FC clearly at the top of the standings on three points with 39 points, while Brikama United maintained 3rd position with 34 points after 20 matches.
Elsewhere, Wallidan were held to a goalless draw by Team Rhino during yesterday’s later encounter played at the Stadium in Bakau.
The Blue Boys, Wallidan FC have now been forced to their eighth draw of the league, while Team Rhino recorded their eleventh draw of the season.
Wallidan FC overall registered six victories, eight draws and six defeats, while Team Rhino overall collected three wins, eleven draws and six losses after 20 games.
The result sent Wallidan FC to 7th position with 26 points, while Team Rhino dropped back to the relegation zone at 15th position with 20 points, leveling with The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF).
