Honorable Abdoulie Njai, National Assembly member for Banjul Central has described the passing of anti-corruption bill and draft constitution as significant.
He expressed hope on the new legislature to help push most important bills awaiting the house’s approval.
“Those who have keenly followed my campaign process and debates will clearly attest that the draft constitution and anti-corruption bills were of much importance to me and we still keep the same ideals and momentum. And hope with this new legislature we’ll be able to push bills that are of priority towards the betterment of our democratic process and I hope the executive will be cooperative as well,” he told The Voice exclusively.
“It is quite obvious that throughout my campaign I have been very direct as per to my aims and objectives as a candidate adding that our much-talked agenda is 4-point which is our key priority areas of focus, better representation, better Legislation and influencing in contributing towards the passing of sound laws), unbiased scrutiny and Inclusion,” he added.
According to him, it is quite obvious that we are currently going through tough times globally, the Russia – Ukraine war mostly a huge factor.
“The price hike is over the board; however, we must be sincere as a nation in facing the fact that we’ve been quite inefficient in utilizing our sovereign national resources in helping curb our reliance on imported goods.
“Our current GDP value represents less than 0.01 percent of the world economy which says a lot on where we are adding that Agriculture as they say is our backbone but the most underutilized sector in this country and as a free market trade,” he added.
“However, Price control will always be an obstacle we the lawmakers in parliament will use our oversight functions in properly scrutinizing the executive and come up with recommendations fit for purpose. As per to the rampant crimes currently happening it is unacceptable and proper policing is needed but most importantly robust security measures coupled with strict laws in place to guarantee violence has no breeding space in this country in whatever form,” he added.
