Sally Jobe, a young Gambian female advocator and the CEO of Tizzy media has called for eradication of female genital mutilation and cutting (FGM/C) saying it is inhuman as it should be totally eradicated in the Gambia and Africa at large.

Speaking in an organised press conference, “we are trying to show despite the fact that the story is mainly on women FGM victims who are encountering the trauma some of them are working class and some are in the provinces regardless of their status. This movie is an issue of FGM that looks at the lives of every FGM victims most importantly my own story maybe some are silent about it and I decided to come out boldly and share my experience.”

According to her ‘’People are going through the effects of FGM and keeping silent about it I decided to come out with a project to talk about how it affects women, how it affects their sexual life either mentally, emotionally and socially.”

Presenting a movie which will portray the risk of FGM/C she said “the movie will be held at Ebunjan theatre Friday 27th May and we wrote a documentary on the victims and they came out to speak, is so heart-breaking on the kind of comments seeing especially from men. They don’t know how it feels to be an FGM victim and my main concern on this project is to enlighten the young mothers because is like our mothers are old and their mentality cannot be changed. This is a traditional practice found here and they believe in it.”

According to her, the purpose of FGM is to prevent the child from early pregnancy but half of the mutilated children got pregnant so what is the point some got married and cannot even enjoy pleasure.

Frankline Adim, director of the movie, said we are here to present to you Zahra’s pain movie that is centred on female genital mutilation it was produced in 2021 by Sally Jobe.

“We are using Zahra’s pain in the Gambia and Africa by extension to say female genital mutilation is not good and it should be stopped,” he urged.

He went on, the movie language is English “we have an addendum part in Wolof and activists have been fighting for this issue for ages still people are doing it under the carpet and I hope the authorities will revisit this issue and engage the society.”
