Hawks FC extends lead, Real suffer 5th loss in GFF 1st Division League

Hawks FC have extended their lead at the top of the table after defeating Elite United, while Real de Banjul suffered their fifth defeat of the season after being beaten by Team Rhino during the week-21 fixtures of the GFF First Division League played over the weekend.

Hawks FC extended their lead at the top of the table after defeating Elite United 1-0 during their week-21 fixture played at the Late Ousman Saho Field in Old Yundum on Friday.

Bailo Bah scored the game’s only goal for Hawks FC in the 45+2 minutes of the first half to give the Reds side all the important three points.

The Banjul-outfit team, Hawks FC, now recorded their thirteen victory of the league, more than any other team, while Elite United suffered their eleventh loss of the season, also more than any other side.

Hawks FC overall recorded thirteen victories, three draws and five defeats, while Elite United overall collected four wins, six draws and eleven losses after 21 games each.

The win extended Hawks FC lead at the top of the standings with 42 points, while the defeat still left Elite United at the rock-bottom of the table in 16th position with 18 points.

Marimoo FC beat Wallidan 1-0 during a game played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on Friday.

Ebrima Fofana strike in the 10th minute was all enough to give Marimoo side the important three points.

The Manjai-based team, Marimoo now registered their six win of the season, while the Banjul-based team, Blue Boys, Wallidan FC suffered their seventh defeat of the league, with five in a row.

Marimoo FC overall earned six wins, nine draws and six defeats, while Wallidan FC overall collected six wins, eight draws and seven losses after 21 encounters each.

The victory moved Marimoo FC to 6th position with 27 points, one point ahead of Wallidan FC who occupied 8th position with 26 points.

Elsewhere, Team Rhino FC beat Real de Banjul 2-1 during a game played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on Saturday.

Buba Hydara and Ebrima Sambou scored for Team Rhino in the 41+1 minutes of the first half and 53rd minute of the second period, while Modou Lamin Demba scored Real de Banjul’s only goal in the 12th minute of the first half.

The Abuko-based team, Team Rhino now recorded their fourth win of the season, while City Boys, Real de Banjul suffered their fifth defeat of the league.

Team Rhino overall registered four wins, eleven draws and six defeats, while Real de Banjul overall earned ten victories, six draws and five losses after 21 games each.

The triumph sent Team Rhino FC to 14th position with 23 points, while the defeat maintained Real de Banjul at 2nd position with 36 points at the time of writing.

Falcons FC played a 1-1 draw against Fortune FC during the earlier game played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on Saturday.

Alieu Fatty scored for Falcons FC in the 29th minute of the first half, before Fortune Fc came with the leveller in the second period to force the game into a 1-1 draw.

The Abuko-based team, Falcons FC earned their seventh draw of the season, while the defending champions, Fortune FC recorded their ninth draw of the league.

The Blue Army Falcons overall collected six victories, seven draws and seven defeats, while the Petroleum Boys, Fortune FC overall earned seven wins, five draws and nine defeats after 21 matches each.

The result occupied Fortune FC at 9th position with 26 points, one point ahead of Falcons FC who sit 10th position with 25 points.

At the time of going to press yesterday, on Sunday, Steve Biko was playing against Waa Banjul at the Late Ousman Saho Field in Old Yundum.
