Mbye Janha, 46 of Kololi, has been arrested over drug trafficking and distribution by operatives of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
According to Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Janha, 46, was arrested on three different occasions for possession of various types and quantities of prohibited drugs in 2018.
According to a statement from the DLEAG office, “DLEAG operatives stationed in the Kanifing Municipality finally caged one of the most notorious illicit drug trafficker and distributors in the Municipality and the Greater Banjul Area by extension. 46 years old Mbye Janha of Kololi has several other cases with the Agency. In 2018 alone, he was arrested on three different occasions for possession of various types and quantities of prohibited drugs.
“On the 14 February 2018, he was clutched with four (4) parcels of suspected cannabis sativa. He was again arrested on the 15 March 2018 and the 6 November 2018 with nineteen (19) parcels of suspected cannabis sativa, four (4) stones of hashish and nine (9) parcels of suspected cannabis respectively,” DLEAG said.
According to DLEAG, in 2019 he was apprehended on the 10 September with nine (9) stones of suspected cocaine and two (2) stones of suspected hashish.
“This time around, 2022, he was taken into custody at Kololi Tavern on the 28 May around 18:48 hours GMT onwards GMT with forty (40) pieces of suspected cocaine. The said suspected cocaine were all wrapped with yellow nylon plastic and concealed in a hidden compartment of a scooter bike. The means of conveyance was a black scooter motorcycle with registration number MC KM 2353 C.
“His arrest is part of an operational strategy targeting prominent dealers, traffickers and distributor of prohibited and controlled drugs. This operation has resulted in the arrest and remand in State custody of some of the key players and distributors of these illicit substances,” it added.
