Police officer testifies in audit staff murder case

Modou Lamin Jarju, a Police Intervention Unit officer has testified in the murder case of National Audit Staff, Ousman Jarju, who was killed around Palma Rima on the 8th September 2021.

Meanwhile, First Class 6732 Jarju testifying at high court said, he was on duties with his boss in September, and unknown woman came to him seeking for help while he was standing at the checkpoint at the time. “I asked her how can I help you, she told me they are on the beach and group of boys attacked them and stabbed the boy she was with,” he added

Officer Jarju said this was when he was informed that his boss and the lady with his boss left him (Jarju) at the checkpoint, I later called my boss and he said he called the Station Officer (SO) to bring a vehicle that can carry the body. Jarju quickly added that, there was a man there who volunteered with his car to take the body of Late Ousman Jarju from the beach together with his boss.

“My Boss alighted at the checkpoint and asked me to escort the body to the hospital, when we arrived at the Serekunda General hospital the doctor looked at where the victim was stabbed, and he then gave me a paper to take to the lab, when I returned the paper to the doctor he said to me, officer sorry we lost him, referring to the man who was stabbed” he narrated to the court.

The First Class PIU officer continued that, that was when he called his boss Sergeant Ebrima Faye 4060, to inform him that the victim died, and he said to me the victim family were on the way coming to the hospital. Adding that the two people later came in and one of the two is the younger brother of the decease who was stabbed.

“When he asked me about him, I told him he is lying there (showing where the deceased was lying) but I didnt tell him he was death, when he went there, he looked at him and went outside, that was the time I told him your brother is dead,” Modoulamin explained to the state council.

He further testified that, the doctor later told him that the deceased will be referred to Banjul, Jarju said he again called his boss who granted him the permission to escort the death body to the RVTH in Banjul.

“After reaching Banjul some other family members of the late audit staff came, and the doctors at Banjul also conducted their checking on him and later asked us to go home, that was when I return to my post at Senegambia TSU”, he said.

“Despite the fact that what you have been told by the unknown woman other than that you know nothing about this case?” Lawyer for the accuse person asked the witness.

“No, I don’t agree with that because when my boss returned (from the beach) I was directly involved in the case,” the witness responded.

The case is now adjourned to the following multiple dates and time, 20th June 2022 by 11AM, 21st June 10AM, 27th June 11AM, 28th June 10AM, 4th July 11AM, 5th July 10AM, 11th July 10AM, 12th July 10AM 2022 respectively.
