Assan Martins, a lawyer-cum-politician has announced intention to run in the upcoming Mayoral elections for Kanifing Municipal Council under an independent ticket.
According to him, he and his team are on mission to help fix Kanifing Municipality, saying residents of the Municipality deserve better.
“It’s true we have done consultation and many people have contacted us and many people heard of our past interviews. And really, it has been going around. But really, yes, we can confirm again that the mission we started in 2017 when we were aspiring, even though we did not contest.
“But this time around, God willing, we (I) will be contesting the Mayoral elections. It’s done purposely for a reason because the people of KM deserved better. It’s very urgent because KM needs a leadership and we need to fix KM as an institution which means we have to rebuild the municipality,” he said.
“So, based on this the residents of Kanifing Municipality deserve better and we are not looking at this person or that person but again for us the dynamic has to change. Well, for now as I say, independent ticket is what we are envisaging but it is also based on further consultation with any other stakeholder.
“But again, the reality is that we are on a mission and any party that consult us, we will explain our mission to them and if there is any common ground for us to work with them, we will work with them. But alongside with that we expect and we very hopeful that there were some stakeholders we have worked with them in the past and the reality is that if they come on board will be very good and they know themselves,” he added.
