Imported food causes lot of diseases, says APP leader

Dr Bai Biram Jaigne, leader of All People’s Party, has warned the country against depending on imported foods for survival, as imported foods causes a lot of diseases.

“There was a hunger in this country during the World War II because Burma didn’t cultivate rice and if we are not mindful such can happen again because 90% of what we consume in this country is imported foods,” he said.

“And it’s not even healthy because we don’t know if they are ‘chemicalised,’ so how can we develop as a country if our survival is on imported foods. And all these diseases like diabetes, high blood and cancers are caused by the bad foods we are importing into the country,” he added.

Meanwhile, he also said that: “the country has only one government owned skills institution which is GTTI and what students pay for fees is too many which poor families cannot afford to pay for their children. The government should ensure they build more of GTTI across the country to help young Gambians to acquire skills. This should be free of charge while the students of the institute pay stipends.”

“But there are three branches of the government that have been here since the colonial time and they contributed to our backwardness. And among these three branches is the local government which was introduced by the colonial masters for collecting taxes to pay the staff,” Dr Jaigine said, He went on that “The government should look at the Area Council and change the system because it’s not good. Why we are having VDC is because we’ve seen that the area council are not significant.”

It’s sad for the black people. We have been enslaved and still we are being enslaved by the white people, he claimed.
