Ahmed Talib Bensouda, Mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) has disclosed that the Council waste project dubbed ‘mballet’ project has generated more than D9 million over times.
“To the loyal servants here, the drivers, janitors, ward secretaries, ticket sellers, you have made over D9 million collections to date. Our gratitude to your commitment and your dedication to the people of KM. To the people of KM, you have made all of these possible. Without you accepting our idea and agreeing to pay for it, today all of these will not happen,” he said.
“Moving forward we still have challenges, there are homes and communities that remain underserved. We will now focus our effort moving forward to make sure we have full coverage so that every single home can receive Mballet service weekly. We will also introduce under fact flagship project in the coming months. In the coming months we will deliver ten thousand bins to every household in Kanifing Municipality,” he revealed.
According to him, the council’s waste project dubbed ‘Mballet project’ launched in June 2019, has created an employment for hundred and seventy staff.
“Few years ago in June 2019, I stood before you all and then launch the Mballet project. The project has since created an employment of hundred and seventy staff comprising of seventy-six Janitors, twenty-two drivers, twenty ward secretaries eleven skip bin attendants, thirty-eight ticket sellers.
“I am proud to say that only after three years later the Mballet project has not missed a single payment. All its bills and financial obligations have been paid on time and with the unflinching support of the deputy mayor and my ward councillors, today we are elated to announced that KMC has full ownership of the Mballet project in its entirety,” he added.
“As the previous speakers have said, not a single truck has deconditioned or damaged as evidence here. You will witness before me today that all resources purchased under the Mballet project are operational and serving the people of KM daily. From the small fees and taxes collected from you the people of KM, today we are proud to say that you the people KM now are full ownership of the Mballet trucks,” he continued.
