GNOC to celebrate International Olympic Day in grand style

The Gambia National Olympic Committee is gearing up for a mega celebration of events marking the 74th international Olympic Day on June 23rd, 2022 with support from TAF CITY.

Based on the three pillars Move, Learn, and Discover, National Olympic Committees will be organizing sports, educational, and or cultural activities throughout the world.

Gambia National Olympic Committee plans to launch Mass Sports events targeting several sports to facilitate access to sport for all across all regions in close collaboration with Regional Governors in a 5-day mega sports jamboree.

The activities will sum up on June 23rd at TAF city in Gunjur, where the ceremony will be held to recognize the efforts of all participants and award merits to winners of various categories.

The event will be graced by the President of GNOC Ms. Beatrice Allen, CEO of TAF Mustapha Njie, Governor of West Coast Region Hon Lamin Sanneh, and other important dignitaries.

ACTIVITIES

The Committee will organize a five days Sports Jamboree in Athletics, Basketball 3×3, Karate, Badminton, Judo, Table tennis, Cycling, Beach Handball, Beach Volleyball 4×4, and Beach Football. The event will target young people (Schools Lower Basic, Upper Basic, Secondary, and Tertiary), National Sports Associations Clubs, and Professionals in various fields.

Day One – Saturday 11th June: Launching of the Programme and Publicity Campaign

Badminton (Outdoor shuttle to be used indoor) Inter Clubs Competition to be held at the Olympafric Center – (10:00am onwards) and

Karate– Inter Clubs Competition to be held at the Olympafric Center – (10:00am onwards)

Table Tennis – Inter Clubs Competition to be held at the Olympafric Center – (10:00am onwards)

Day Two – Sunday 12th June: Beach Volleyball – Inter Clubs Competition to be held at the Palma Rima Beach – (10:00am onwards)

Beach Handball – Inter Clubs Competition to be held at the Palma Rima Beach – (10:00am onwards)

Day Three –Saturday 18th June: Basketball 3×3, Inter Clubs Competition to be held at the Independence Stadium, Bakau – (10:00am onwards)

Day Four –Sunday 19th June: Beach Soccer – Inter Clubs Competition to be held at the Palma Rima Beach – (10:00am onwards)

Day Five – Thursday 23rd June:

Road Run – Greater Banjul (9:00a.m to 11:00a.m) Boys and Girls from Senior Secondary, Upper and Lower Basic Schools in 10km, 5km, and 3 km respectively

Road Run – Lower River, Central River, Upper River, and North Bank Regions respectively under the various Regional Governors (9:00a.m to 11:00a.m) Boys and Girls from Senior Secondary, Upper and Lower Basic Schools will take part in 10km; 5km;  and 3km runs respectively.

Competitive Cyclists from the Gambia Cycling Association will compete against each other riding from Kartong to TAF CITY whilst others will ride alongside runners as escorts in all regions – (9:00a.m to 11:00a.m)

Judo Competition amongst young and old to be held at (09:00a.m to 11:50)
