Second batch of trafficked Gambian girls arrive from Oman

By Malen Ndow

Foundation Against Trafficking and Irregular Migration has announced the arrival of second batch of Gambian girls trafficked to Oman, purposely for greener pasture.

Last month, Gambian women reportedly trafficked to the gulf state of Oman appealed to the Gambia government to facilitate their immediate repatriation to The Gambia.

The women were trafficked with the promise of well-paid jobs only to be told on arrival in the gulf country that they have been sold as slaves to some Arabs, who subjected them to inhumane treatment.

According to the Foundation Against Trafficking and Irregular Migration, the hard labour imposed on them without enough rest has caused some health complications for most of them

“Foundation Against Trafficking and Irregular Migration wishes to inform the general public that on 18th June 2022 we are bringing home the Second Batch of 2 girls from the middle east (Oman) where our youths, mostly girls where trafficked for domestic work upon arrival, they were exposed to hard labour, whilst some experience sexual harassment to name a few.

“This time FATIM was able to purchase for 2 girls and will arrive in Dakar on the 18th June, whilst (NAATIP) National Agency Against Trafficking In Person is facilitating the transportation from Dakar to Gambia. We will still continue to engage the government, organizations and individuals to assist in repatriating the rest of the girls,” it said.

The hard labour imposed on them without enough rest has caused some health complications for most of them, their returned was facilitated and fully funded by the Foundation Against Trafficking and Irregular Migrations (FATIM).
