Majula J Joof, 26, the Gambia Beauty Queen, has received a red-carpet reception at home after winning the Miss Freetown of the World in Europe competition, held in Kosovo in June 2022.
Ms Joof was among the thirty contestants drawn from across the world to take part in the competition.
Speaking to reporters, the elegant Queen Joof expressed joy for emerging winner of the competition, which she described as an honour.
“I feel happy representing The Gambia at an international level and came out victorious among fellow African ladies. It is an honour for me to come back home and see my family first at the Banjul international airport,” joyous Queen Joof said.
According to the nation’s newest Queen, it wasn’t an easy journey, because she had to fix a lot of things by herself by paying for her flight ticket.
She said: “plane tickets are really expensive to buy. Some things I needed like my clothes, shoes, etc were also my problem and I needed all of these things to be able to compete with the other ladies from other countries.”
“My people, Africell really helped me with some money to buy my ticket and if it wasn’t for them, I would have lost the chance to make it to this life-changing opportunity and come out victorious, some people also supported me with clothes, shoes and makeup products,”
“I did my best and I am glad that the Gambia is recognized at the international level because of my performance, I can stand here and say I represented the Gambia well. The Gambian people really need to support each other more often, especially when it comes to things like this instead of choosing some things over the other,” she added.
“I went to two Government offices for help but I didn’t get anything from them which is very sad because I didn’t go there to represent myself but The Gambia. The advice I have for the young people aspiring to go for beauty pageants is that they should believe in themselves because I don’t have the height and I am not that slim for the pageant but I believe in myself and that’s the key,” she advised upcoming and intent pageants.
