19-Year-Old Boy to Serve Two Weeks Prison Term for Theft

Magistrate Isatou Dabo of Brikama Magistrate Court has, on Monday, 27th June 2022, sentenced Modou Lamin Saidykhan, 19, to two weeks prison term for stealing one A55 itel cellphone which was said to belong to one Lamin Touray, a resident of Gunjur, Kombo South in West Coast Region.

The teenager was accused of entering the house of Lamin Touray on May 22 2022, at 10:00 am at his residence in Gunjur. However, the accused pleaded guilty before the Magistrate Court and claimed that he was under the influence of drugs when he stole the cellphone of Lamin Touray.

However, Magistrate Isatou Dabo pronounced that “Modou Lamin Saidykhan is guilty before the law contrary to 252 of the criminal code and he has violated cap number 10 of the Laws of the Gambia. He is therefore sentenced to two weeks of imprisonment at Mile 2 Central Prison with the liability to pay a fine of D5000.00 (five thousand dalasis) and failure to pay this, he will serve three months imprisonment.”
