The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) Electoral Committee has informed the general public about their duties and responsibilities for the upcoming elective congress slated for August 2022.
The Electoral Committee revealed that their committee is not part of the GFF Standing Committee except one (Mr. Lamin Jassey, GFF General Secretary) who was elected by the General Assembly in an AGM to carry out specific duties.
According to the vice chairman of the GFF Electoral Committee, Saikou B. Jarju, their committee is mandated to set and announce election dates and time and also scrutinize nomination papers for candidates.
“Our committee is also mandated to conduct eligibility checks on aspiring candidates, ensuring that the electoral codes are respected by all aspiring candidates and also announcing those who meet the criteria and those who do not,” he noted.
Mr. Jarju also noted that they are responsible for conducting elections in a fair manner without due inference from the parties and announcing the results and declaring the winner or winners before the General Assembly.
He added that the electoral code was approved by the GFF General Assembly in February 2018 and has immediately come into force since then.
“On record, there is no single registered candidate and we have not received any nomination of a candidate yet and so we don’t want to pre-empt a situation that we have no evidence of.”
