Hawks FC have extended their lead at the top of the Gambian Premier League, while their closest challengers Real de Banjul suffered another defeat during the week-26 fixtures of the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) First Division League played over the weekend.
Hawks FC extended their lead after defeating Gamtel FC 2-0 during a game played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on Saturday.
The Reds, Hawks now collected their sixteen wins of the season, more than any other team, while the Telecom Giants Gamtel FC now suffered their eleventh loss of the league.
The result extended Hawks FC lead with 51 points, six points above Real de Banjul who were playing against Falcons FC, while the defeat dropped Gamtel FC to 10th position with 28 points.
Elsewhere, Wallidan FC also recorded their ninth win of the league after beating arch rivals Waa Banjul 2-1 during the earlier Banjul-derby game played at the Stadium on Friday.
The Blue Boys, Wallidan FC now registered their ninth win of the league, while Waa Banjul suffered their fifth defeat of the league.
The victory moved Wallidan FC to 4th position with 36 points, two points above Waa Banjul, who occupied 6th position with 34 points.
Struggling side, Gambia Ports Authority (GPA) held Marimoo to a 1-1 draw during the earlier game played at the Stadium on Saturday.
The result gave GPA their seventh draw of the league, while the Manjai-based team Marimoo recorded their twelfth draw of the season.
Marimoo FC occupied 7th position with 33 points, while GPA maintained their position at the relegation zone (15th) position with 25 points.
Meanwhile, Real de Banjul were beaten 3-1 by Falcons FC during a game played at the Stadium in Bakau on Sunday.
The Abuko-based team, Falcons, now recorded their seventh victory of the season, while Real de Banjul suffered their sixth loss of the league.
The victory moved Falcons FC to 10th position with 29 points, while the defeat maintained Real de Banjul at 2nd position with 45 points, six points behind leaders Hawks.
Earlier, on Sunday, Waa Banjul held Steve Biko to a goalless draw during the first game played at the Stadium.
The result recorded both the Beach Boys, Steve Biko and the Banjul-based team Waa Banjul to their ninth draw of the season each.
The draw moved Steve Biko to 4th position with 36 points, two points above Waa Banjul, who occupied 6th position with 34 points.
Fortune FC and Elite United also played a goalless draw during the late encounter played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on Sunday.
The defending champions registered their seventh draw of the league, while the struggling Elite United, who seems to have found their redeem now collected their eight draw of the season.
The result put Fortune Fc to 13th position with 28 points, two points above Elite United who occupied 14th position with 26 points after 25 games each.
