Ahmed Gitteh says BAC can get D1.6m on waste collection in a week

By Adama Makasuba

Outspoken Ahmed Gitteh who announced his intention to unseat Brikama Area Council chairman, Sheriffo Sonko, has said that the Brikama Area Council can make a staggering collection of D1.6 million on waste collection every week.

“What I have seen in these places is people pay donkey cart and private vehicle owners to transport their waste materials away and I have looked at this with my people. If you look our Brufut height you will find that there are almost five hundred to seven hundred compounds and if you ask the donkey cart riders, they will tell you anytime they go to pick up the wastes materials from every compound pays D100 to D300, and most of them go there twice a week,” he said.

Meanwhile, he added: “Let’s say 500 compounds need a service of waste collection twice a week and each of them is charged D200 for just Brufut height. When you multiply D500 by D100 you have D50,000 just for a week, and I know it is more than that.

According to him, if one multiplied this figure by four will give you a staggering 1.6 million dalasis, adding Brikama Area Council on average is 1.6 million just to collect waste.

Now, let’s say from Salaji to Sukuta-Jabang traffic light going down to Brusubi up to Paradise Estate, let’s say you have 2000 compounds, and each compound you are collecting waste charging D200, and you are getting 400,000 a week. You multiply that by 4 you are getting almost D1.6 million. So, what we can get at the Brikama Area Council on average is 1.6 million just to collect waste.

Meanwhile, he said: “my mage mates are presidents the world over. My mates have become governors, my mates have become ministers, and have also become big people in elected positions the world over. So, give your Brikama Area Council to me to manage it. Give it to me to fix it, give it to me to bring transparency there, give it to me to bring hard work there, give it to me to cut the head of corruption.”
