Honorable Yaya Menteng Sanyang, National Assembly Member for LatriKunda Sabiji Constituency has observed that President Adama Barrow cannot rule the country in the absence of Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP).
“Although Barrow is the president of the republic, he cannot rule the nation in Darboe’s absence whose party has more than fifteen (15) parliamentary seats in the Parliament and therefore he (Barrow) needs the cooperation of the UDP for effective governance,” he told The Voice in an interview.
Honorable Sanyang emphasized that he was sure that the wisdom has been drummed to him and therefore he wants to work towards that cooperation, adding that the pool of talent in UDP is what President Barrow needs to develop the country, but not the people he surrounds himself with.
“Those set of people cannot add any value to his operation and UDP cannot work for Barrow, we can only work with him for the interest of the country. Their energy and synergy would never be to empower Barrow politically to their detriment but to make sure that the UDP’s five-point agenda is delivered to the Gambians.
However, we will see if the President has reformed by way of his philosophy of processing things and ideas to make sure this country is a better place to work. And as a party we will continue to champion the development of this country by performing oversight corrections on President Barrow and his government,” he said.
He further pointed out that, they would be very mindful of President Barrow and he entice inducement and motivation knowing the type of person he is contrary to his call he made to Darboe and other political leaders, adding that to him, it is a sign of maturity and responsibility and he shouldn’t relent on his oars to be more mature and responsible as the President of this country which is a very respectable office.
