Jane Joof: ‘Winning Brikama Utd is a massive three points’

By Arfang M.S. Camara

Jane Joof, head coach of Fortune FC, said it is a very important three points after winning against their bitter rivals Brikama United, noting that this is the maximum points they have been looking for in their past five games.

Basiru Manga and Pierre Jabang scored both goals for Coach Jane Joof’s side Fortune FC against our neighbours Brikama United.

“We have not been able to win any game since our victory against Waa Banjul. So, along the way we have a couple of draws and two defeats. So, we told the boys that the position we were in is not favourable to the team. Now, what we need to do is to start winning if we want to finish the league in a healthy position,” he said.

Coach Jane, who guided Fortune FC to the title last season, added that after their game against Elite United, they realised that scoring was one of their main problems. This, he said, was why knew if they play their normal football against Brikama United (whom they know very well), they will win the derby encounter.

“We scored two goals in the first half and it was very challenging for us during the second period and on the way, we were trying to get on the breakaway. But the most important thing was the three points.”

For his part, Modou Lamin Nyassi, head coach of Brikama United, thanked their bitter rivals Fortune FC for collecting the maximum points, adding that they deserved the win they did.

“This is football, if you need it, you have got it and which they did. This is part of football; we came to win because we are also fighting for something but things went this way. So, we have to take it in good faith and go back to the training ground and rectify our mistakes.”

The victory moved Fortune FC to 12th position with 31 points, while the defeat dropped Brikama United to 4th position with 38 points.
