Principal Magistrate Muhammed Krubally last Friday granted the state’s request to search one of the private properties of the exiled former president Yahya Jammeh, as new information emerged that the former Gambian leader is hiding his stolen wealth in the said property.
The ruling came as the state filed an ex-parte motion for a search warrant to access Jammeh Brufut Tranquil’s property which was built from the illegal funds stolen by him (Jammeh) from the Central Bank from 1994- 2017.
Presiding Magistrate Krubally, in his ruling, said the ground is that the state is undertaking investigations against ex-President Jammeh for the offense of stealing public funds from the Central Bank of The Gambia contrary to section 245E of the Criminal Code.
The court said it is believed that Jammeh is having cars and other items kept at the said property, all considered stolen from public funds.
”The facts also indicated on 12 July 2022 that the police received investigations report of the discovery of properties belonging to ex-President Jammeh which were not covered by the Janneh Commission during its investigations and one of these properties is the Brufut Tranquil which is the subject of investigations,” Magistrate Krubally said, before ordering the Inspector General of police to search the property.
