Brufut drug suspect explains why he jumped from a storey building

By Adama Makasuba

Sheikh Omar Hydara, a 27-year-old Brufut man suspected of trafficking drugs, has given the reason why he jumped down from an uncompleted storey building.

He told the drug law enforcers that he jumped from the storey building out of fear and panic after he recognised one of the officers who had previously arrested him.

According to DLEAG, Mr Hydara was arrested with three (3) big bundles, three parcels and some quantities of suspected cannabis sativa that he claimed he got from a friend residing in Casamance.

“The suspect who was in an uncompleted storey building alongside three of his friends jumped from one of the windows of the storey building in an attempt to evade arrest causing what was assumed to be a fracture to his leg.

“He was first taken for local treatment, and thereafter to the hospital where scanning results indicated that there were no fractures or otherwise any damage to his legs.  His prescription medications were procured while he was put on bail.  His friends who witnessed the incident were also invited as part of the investigative process and their witness statements were obtained,” Drug Law Enforcement Agency disclosed.

“When asked about the reason why he recklessly jumped from the building, the suspect revealed that he recognised one of the officers who had previously arrested him and in a state of panic he felt that the only option was to jump from the building because he knew that his bag contained huge quantities of suspected cannabis Sativa.  He confessed ownership to the said drugs and indicated that his colleagues did not know about it,” DLEAG added.

However, DLEAG explained the challenges its operatives face daily in pursuit of their daily functions, adding some of these suspects under the influence of drugs act in a very reckless manner that endangers their lives.

“The suspect’s action, in this case, could have resulted in serious injury to himself or the outcome could have been unimaginably different.”
