The Current ongoing media tour by the Information Minister, Lamin Queen Jammeh is a significant step in a government-media relationship.
The ongoing visit through various media houses in the Gambia aimed at getting first-hand information on the various challenges encountered by various media outlets in the Gambia would also pave the way for future engagements and understanding between the media houses and the government through the Information Ministry for possible interventions.
However, the tour would also remind the Minister of what it normally takes to operate as a media outlet, particularly the print media, the cost of production, and its significant roles in disseminating information to the nation and beyond.
Also, it has been confirmed that under the current government, there has been freedom of the press with freedom of expression of media operators and practitioners in the country which is seen as a plus to the Gambia government which is creditable.
Furthermore, at the end tour, there are expectations that there would be more future collaborations between the media houses and the Gambia government through the Information Ministry for the national interest.
It is also with the hope that the current press freedom in the country would last as freedom is one of the tools for national development.
