Underline United were over the weekend crowned champions of the junior Soccer Sports League tournament after defeating Supper Life United 1-0 in a final played at the Canaan Football Field in Brikama.
Abdoulie Nget scored the game’s only goal for Underline United in the 31st minute of the game.
Supper Life United tried to restore purity but couldn’t capitalize on their chances created in the game.
As winners of the tournament, Underline United were given a giant trophy and a cash prize of D14, 000, while the runners up, Super Life United were given a cash prize of D11, 000.
Meanwhile, Abdoulie Nget, striker for Underline United received a cash price of D600 with a trophy as the leading goal scorer and Nfansu Dibba of the same team also received a cash price of D600 with a trophy as the best player of the league.
Lamin Ceesay of Super Life United was also given a cash prize of D400 with a trophy as the best goal keeper of the tournament and the team’s fan club were given D2, 000 for the Best Fans Club of the league.
Speaking in an interview with the Voice Sports, Lamin Fadera, Chairman of Soccer Sports thanked all the sports committees in Brikama for their great support while calling on sponsors from both the sport lovers and philanthropies.
Bubacarr Manjang, Secretary General of Soccer Sports stated that this is the 22nd edition of the Soccer Sports League tournament, while highlighting that the tournament has helped to groom players for the national team such as James Gomez, who is now a professional footballer.
“This tournament helped in nurturing players like James Gomez, Alieu Kugera who plays in Germany and Bun Sanneh of Brikama United, who is also a national team player,” he said.
