GCCI sensitises Financial Services Providers on Roots project

The Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry GCCI has sensitised Financial Services Providers and stakeholders on the Roots Project financing for producers and small medium enterprise SMEs. 

GCCI as implementing partners of ROOTs project recently brought together managing directors, representative from the Central Bank of The Gambia, head of financial service, commercial banks and financial service providers and representative from GCCI to discuss the Roots Project.

 

According to officials, the forum was meant to discuss the opportunities available at the Roots Project and to ensure that the small medium enterprise has access to this matching grant at Roots project. 

 

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Sarata Conateh, Chief Executive officer of GCCI expressed delights and appreciation over the large turnout of the participants from various financial service providers. 

She thanked and commended the participants for their level of participation during this session.

For his part, Mr. Lamin S. Darboe, the senior climate smart agriculture office at the Roots project said the session is very important to the roots project.

 

He disclosed that the Root project is a 6 year project under the Ministry of Agriculture which is here to support production and marketing of two very important value change commodities in the Gambia – the rice and vegetable production. 

 

These are the areas that the project will do a lot of supports to our smallholder farmers in terms of production and productivity of the rice and vegetables in the rural communities. The project will also go further to ensure that there is market to whatever our smallholder farmers are producing,” he assured them.
