Dr Ceesay urged to resign from CA leadership

By Adama Makasuba

Malick Jarju, a political commentator has urged Dr Ismaila Ceesay to resign from the leadership of the Citizens’ Alliance amid disarray within the party’s leadership.

Mr Jarju’s advice comes as CA suspended its spokeswoman, Neneh Freda Gomez over a leaked conversation of the party’s executive.

However, Jarju said: “I feel Dr Ceesay is wrong and he should accept he is wrong because I see how he is acting on this issue. I noticed the first day he went and met Barrow.”

“He [Dr Ceesay] should have accepted that he went to meet Barrow and he should have informed the president of his party Dominic Mendy and he should clarify whether he had gone to Barrow in his capacity or on the capacity of his party. But the fact that he denied meeting Barrow was wrong and that is not a good leadership quality. We all saw before all these things how he was attacking Barrow on the three years issue,” he added.

“If what Dominic said is what happened in CA, then they don’t have an executive, and the current situation that Dr Ceesay could do for the best interest of himself and CA is to resign from the leadership of the party. Because if he feels like he can no longer criticise the government because he is working in the civil service, he should resign from the party,” he advised him.

Meanwhile, he said: “Leadership is difficult, leadership is not only about education, but it also has lots of qualities which if you miss anyone you will face lots of challenges. A good leader must bear patience and must be willing to tolerate and forgive, listen and accommodate. But sadly, some of these leaders don’t have these qualities.

“I know he has his shortcomings but he tolerates and let’s go of many things people do to him, but I know some of these leaders who if they were in Barrow’s position, I fear if they don’t closer to Jammeh in jailing, they may surpass him in that because someone who is not yet given the power to lead the country behaving in certain ways in public because that person criticises you.”
