Democracy is one of the world’s most prudent tools in the development of any sector of a nation that is guided by moral principles and responsibilities. Globally, democracy has the power to renew and also establish lasting relationships amongst nations for mutual interests.
It breaks through closed boundaries by rescuing back threatened people or societies to feel the peep of the sunlight, it serves as a breathtaking and helps them truly see the world with confidence and hope. Through democracy, hopes are built, potentials are realized, so many lives are saved, and so many dignities are gained with recognition and empowerment.
With democracy, it helps bring people together to pursue a common goal with the empowerment of all citizenries, it gives a huge opportunity to both government and the society to interact and share effective matters.
Through democracy, it reminds a person of not just his or her rights but also his or her responsibilities in both personal and national developments. However, personal moralities have a great role to play in exercising democracy in a country, without morality, one will find it pretty difficult to exercise democracy in a community or a nation. Morality is, however, a guiding tool in the execution of democratic values.
However, after the political impasse in December 2016, the Gambia has been recognized as a democratic nation by the world which gives the citizens the opportunity to exercise their rights as a democratic nation. However, it should be pursued with moral obligations as a human foundation.
It is with the fact that a person cannot exercise or practice democratic principles in the absence of good morals, morality are the founding pillar of democracy. As far as one has rights, it equally goes with moral responsibilities.
When a country does not live in a democratic environment, it leads people to live under siege with treats, therefore, it would be wise when exercising democratic rights to be fully guided by moral obligations.
