Omar Sarr, Captain of Hawks FC has dedicated the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) 1st Division League title to the entire Gambians.
Hawks FC won the Gambian Premier League after defeating the Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) 3-1 during their week-29 fixtures played at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on Thursday.
Modou Lamin Jarju’s brace and Omar Sarr strike was enough to make Hawks FC the champions of the GFF First Division League.
The Banjul-based team won for the first time after 26 years with a game to spare.
They finally won the league after collecting 59 points. They registered 18 wins, 5 draws and suffered 6 defeats in 29 games.
“I’m very happy to have won the title this season, because it’s been awhile since we last won it. Our success came after we played as a team and listened to our coaches. This is what helped us a lot,” he said during an interview.
According to him, it was difficult during the starting of the league but “thanked God that now we’ve achieved what we wanted.”
Being one of the oldest players in the team, Captain Sarr noted that he and other players always talk and guide the young players, adding that they prepared very well for this season compared to the previous seasons.
“Sometimes the team used to train twice but for me I used to train three times a day,” adding that this success will forever remain in their history of the club.
