Lamin Jammeh, the Officer-in-Charge of Banjulinding Police Station recently testified in the ongoing trial of one Modou Kujabi who was charged with cannabis trafficking.
Appearing before the Brikama Magistrates’ Court Presided over by Magistrate Peter Adoh Che, Lamin Jammeh during his cross-examination told the court that, the accused, Modou Kujabi was arrested at Mariama Kunda village and was taken to New Yundum Police station.
‘’ The accused told the officers that arrest him that he bought the drugs at Yuna village for the cost of one thousand five hundred dalasi (D1500) per bundle which amounted to seven thousand five hundred dalasi (D7500) for five bundles of cannabis Sativa,’’ he explained.
He further stated that the accused Modou Kujabi was taken to his office at Banjulinding Police Station by Corporal Sanneh and Corporal Fatty of Banjulinding Anti-Crime Unit. Officer Jammeh went on that the accused Modou Kujabi smuggled the drugs for illicit business. The case was adjourned to the 8th of August 2022
Meanwhile, according to the charge filed before the court, the accused Modou Kujabi was found in possession of prohibited drugs for the purpose of drug trafficking contrary to sections 43 (4) and 43 (e) of The Gambia Drug Control Act, Laws of the Gambia 2003.
The particular offence stated that Modou Kujabi on the 9th October 2021 at New Yundum, Kombo Central, West Coast Region in the Republic of the Gambia had in his possession of 5kilograms and 350grams of cannabis Sativa a prohibited drug, thereby committing an offense, but he, however, pleaded not guilty to this offence.
