Drug trafficker arraigned

A 29-year-old man, Alhagi Ceesay a native of Jarra Barro Kunda, Lower River Region who was appeared before Magistrate Peter Adoh Che of the Brikama Magistrate’s Court for drug trafficking contrary to sections 43 (4) and 43 (e) of the Drug Control Act 2005 has claimed that he was arrested among two drug traffickers who were set free.

According to the particular of his offense Alhagi Ceesay on or about the 6th May 2022 at Kalagi checkpoint and its diverse places in the West Coast Region of the Republic of the Gambia, was in possession of 2 kilograms and 200 grams of cannabis Sativa a prohibited drug, thereby committed an offense. 

Alhagi Ceesay pleaded not guilty to the charges.

During his cross-examination, he said he was arrested among two drug traffickers who were set free.

However, the presiding Magistrate Peter AdohChe stated that the court does not have the power to give him bail while he ordered that the accused should be taken to Mile II prison. The case was adjourning to 1st September 2022 continuation
