Seven undocumented Bars & Restaurants within the Greater Banjul have been closed down during Police night raid patrol.
The operation comes in the wake of a recent surge in break-ins and robberies reported in some parts of WCR.
“A total of Seven Bars & Restaurants were closed immediately for not ensuring proper operating documents. The closed Bars & Restaurants are located in Brikama, two (2) in Brufut, one in Brusubi, and another in Tallinding, added to the 18 previously closed bars and restaurants bringing the total to 25,” Police said.
Police said 48 people are arrested for idle and disorderly behaviour and undocumented immigrants, and affray, going armed in public, possession of suspected cannabis Sativa among others.
“During the exercise, the operation teams closed several undocumented bars and restaurants that are illegally operating in KMC and WCR. Additionally, 48 individuals were arrested in different parts of WCR by various patrol teams for idle and disorderly behaviour, undocumented immigrants, affray, going armed in public, and possession of suspected cannabis sativa among others,” Police said.
“It is confirmed that the arrestees constituted 5 females and 43 males. Among them are 39 Gambians, 3 Nigerians, 3 Sierra Leoneans, 2 Senegalese, and a Mauritanian.
“Nine of the arrestees are juveniles and the other 39 are all adults. Two of them were handed over to the drug Law Enforcement Agency of the Gambia for crimes related to drugs. Others have been handed over to the screening team at Brusubi Police Station while the rest are in detention,” Police added.
The operation was led by an SPO who embarked on a night patrol to various jurisdictions within the West Coast Region under the supervision of Chief of Operations CSP Bakebba Susso, Supt. Gass Sabally, Acting Commissioner of Operations, and other Operation Commanders.
