Ablie Bojang, head coach of The Gambia U-20 team praised his players for executing their tactics during their 2-0 win over Cape Verde in their opening WAFU Zone A U-20 championship played at the Stade Olympique de Nouakchott on Tuesday.
Young Scorpions Baa Lamin Sowe stole the show in the game as he netted a brace for The Gambia, scoring from either half of the game.
He first opened the scoring in the 36th minute of the first half before completing his brace in the 74th minute of the second half.
“I actually feel very happy for winning and also for the boys executing exactly what they trained,” said Coach Ablie Bojang shortly after the game.
He added that their buildup was definitely very good after keeping possession of the ball, making penetration passes, playing through the wings and centers and also creating opportunities and taking them.
“The match was very good. We hold on to the ball. We were able to create a lot of chances but managed to score two goals even though we could’ve scored more. Tactically, the boys were very well disciplined in terms of attacking and defending.”
According to him, the secret behind the victory is due to their tactics, adding that though they didn’t know much about their opponents but the test matches against the selection team and U-23 team helped them a lot.
“Our tactics is going to be the secret weapon; we are going to use to whip our opponents,” Coach Bojang revealed
For his part, Baa Lamin Sowe, who won the Man of the Match Award after his brace expressed delights for scoring both goals for The Gambia, and also winning the Man of the Match Awards.
“We are all determined to help the country qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt. I also look forward to scoring many goals and winning more Man of the Match awards.”
Meanwhile, The Gambia U-20 team will return to action today, on Thursday, when they Liberia in their second encounter of WAFU Zone A championship currently taking place in Mauritania.
