WAFU Championship: Gambia U-20 to face Senegal today

The Gambia Under-20 Team will today, on Tuesday play against Senegal in their fourth and final group game of the ongoing West African Football Union (WAFU) Zone A championship in Nouakchott, Mauritania.

The match which is slated at 6pm, will be played at the Olympique stadium in Nouakchott.

The Young Scorpions of The Gambia had a bright start at the ongoing tournament as they won two and drew one in their last three games.

Coach Abdoulie Bojang and his charges defeated both Cape Verde 2-0 and Liberia 4-1 before drawing goalless against Guinea in their third encounter.

Meanwhile, The Young Scorpions yesterday held their final training session this morning ahead of their final fixture of the group stage at the ongoing WAFU tournament.

Speaking in an interview, Coach Ablie Bojang said they are hoping for a win against their neighbours Senegal, adding that winning against the Young Teranga Lions will be very crucial in the tournament

“We want to top the table but our objective is to qualify,” he said.

According to him, they had a recovery session yesterday, on Monday, adding that they are looking forward to putting up a respectable performance against the Young Lions of Teranga to qualify to the next stage of the tournament.

The Gambia U-20 defeated Senegal at 5-4 on post-penalties following a 2-2 draw on regular time in their previous meeting held at Thies to be crowned Champions and are determined to maintain that title defense.
