Principal Magistrate Peter Adoh Che of Brikama on Tuesday fined one Ebrima Sonko to pay the sum of one hundred thousand dalasi or risk going to jail after he pleaded guilty for having suspected cannabis for trafficking.

Police prosecuting officer Nicholas Jammeh narrated the facts of the case which according to him happened on July 30th when the police at the Brikama police station visited the convict’s house and found him in possession of ten bundles of suspected cannabis with twenty-one parcels in a barrel.

The convict Mr. Sonko pleaded to the court to temper justice with mercy as he is the family’s breadwinner and has a wife and children to take care of.

After listening to the facts of the case by the prosecutor and the mitigation by the suspect, the Principal Magistrate upheld: “I hereby invoked section 29 of the Criminal Procedure Code and fine the Convict, Ebrima Sonko to pay a fine of one hundred thousand dalasi (D100,000) in default to spend three years in prison.”
