Accused acknowledges deceitful act before the court on land deal

Buba Badjie, a native of Lamin Kerewan village, West Coast Region who was arraigned before the Brikama Magistrates’ Court presided over by Magistrate Peter Adoh Che, on Thursday, 8th September, has acknowledged his deceitful act of selling a plot of land measuring 20 X 20 meters in Lamin Kerewan Village in West Coast Region to Mr Lang Kinteh at the cost of D3000,000.00.

In his particular of offence, Buba Badjie, on the 7th of October 2021 at Lamin Kerewan, West Coast Region with intent to defraud obtained the sum of D300,000 from Mr Lang Kinteh with the pretext of selling to him a plot of land measuring 20 x 20 meters located at Lamin Kerewan which representation was false and he knew it to be false, thereby, committed an offence.

According to PW1, Lamin Kinteh, during the cross-examination with the Police Prosecutor Corporal John Preirra said he bought a 20 X 20 plot of land from the accused, Buba Badjie at the cost of D300,000, and the land is located at Lamin Kerewan village.

He said the accused took him to Pa Ceesay, the Alkalo of Madinaring village where he was given an Alkalo land transfer document of ownership for his son, Lang Kinteh.

However, after a long period he realized that there was a ban on the land therefore, he went on to search for the accused, Buba Badjie but when he told the accused about the ban that was raised on the land the accused deceived and said ‘’we are paying money to settle the problem on the land to lift the ban on the land.”

”When I reported the case to Madinaring Police Station he (Buba Badjie) promised to pay my money installment but he failed to honor his vow on two occasions. Even the Officer-in-Charge of Madinaring Police Station did not trust him because of his inconsistency in keeping promises”, PW1 lamented.

However, Prosecutor 4812 Preirra tendered the Alkalo ownership document of the son of PW1, Lang Kinteh to the court and it was accepted by the Magistrate and numbered BB1.

The case was adjourned to the 14th November 2022 for continuation.
