Gambia Transport Union Sit down strike exposes govt Incompetence

By: Bakary Ceesay

On Gambia Transport debacle: crisis daily basic at the level of governance in the Gambia as it exposes the incompetence at the highest level, why our ministry of transport can’t sit with the Transport union and negotiate and struck a good deal to avoid this suffering of the masses.

In a democratic society industrial actions are bound to happen by unions, but when it happens it needs to be handled with care and dialogue not confrontational and anger from the government. Serious public officials across the globe are talking to their citizens daily Basic listening to their concerns and finding amicable ways of addressing them, rather than sitting in their various offices drinking coffee and going home.

In a fair society when the pump price is reduced it should be reflected in the current reality as applicable in other countries but why is our government insisting on the price while average citizens are suffering in all aspects of life?

Our public officials should always listen to the plight of its citizens and should not be a confrontation in dealing with national issues, dialogue is the way forward in solving this transport debacle affecting our people. Our people deserve this because we have the opportunity to change the status quo for the better, but refuse now economic jungles are at the helm of affairs we are sinking into the deep of the ocean. Hardship is beyond imagination, all sectors have failed doomed states!!! Criminals in a suit pretending to be public officials. Enough is enough Gambia deserves better than this. We need a change of attitude from our public officials in dealing with crisis management in dialogue with citizens to pave the way forward for the betterment of a fair and equitable society.

I call on the transport ministry to sit with the union and negotiate on how to find a common solution rather than confrontation. You don’t have enough vehicles to meet the demands of commuters all over the country. Do not follow the wrong advice on national issues. Do the right things for the betterment of Gambians.
