GRA Boss Adores Media Contributions Toward Tax Compliance

The Commissioner General of the Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA), Mr. Yankuba Darboe has expressed satisfaction with the level of contribution of the media in its advocacy for helping the GRA to improve tax compliance.

He made this remark during an interview with the media at his office recently.

He said media contributions have made significant improvements in tax compliance. He, therefore, praised the media for the partnership in creating awareness of the importance of tax payments to the government.

However, he said GRA is mandated to collect revenue on behalf of the government for national development and once the money is collected, GRA sends the money directly to the Central Bank, while Government decides how to use it for the benefit of the Citizenry.

“So, we are all in this development together” we help each other either in terms of the information to get where we cannot go and that’s what you do for us and the taxpayers’ education is helping them because of the newspapers and the other media houses a lot of people are coming on board to make their tax payment after knowing through the media the importance and impact of tax payment.

Mr. Darboe emphasized that “if it is GRA alone it will be difficult for them to get to certain corners but using either the radio stations, the televisions or the newspapers then the message go faster within and outside the country.” Now many people start to understand the reasons why they pay taxes due to different taxpayers’ programs going on in the media.
