The Gambia Football Federation on Sunday brought to a close a five-day Referee Assessors Course held at the National Technical Training Centre in Old Yundum.
This follows the successful completion of an MA Course for elite referees also held under the same umbrella as part of the Federations continues drive to enhance the capacities of its core entities.
Deputising for GFF President at the closing ceremony, First Vice President Bakary K. Jammeh paid tribute to late James Furumus Gomez, an Executive Committee Member and President of URRFA who sadly passed on Saturday after a long illness, describing his demise as a great lost to Gambian football.
Mr Jammeh said the GFF executive has prioritised capacity building as a topmost agenda in its football development.
He thanked the Course Director Mr. Abdul Basit Ebrahim for travelling from South Africa to share his knowledge with The Gambia and also congratulated the Referees Assessors for their well-deserved completion of the training.
He made a pleasant surprise to the Course Director by presenting him with a beautiful Gambian Khaftan as a gift.
John Frank Mendy, Chairman of the Referees Association and GFF Executive Committee Member thanked the Federation for facilitating the training while also thanking CAF and FIFA for providing the materials as well as the technical support.
Course Director Mr. Abdul Basit Ebrahim was full of joy for being in The Gambia for the first time, while thanking the GFF for creating the conducive environment for the successful training.
Alhagie Aduwa Mbye gave the vote of thanks on behalf of his colleagues.
The program ended with a presentation of certificates to all the participants.
