Sanchaba Youths United were over the weekend crowned winners of the Brikama Nawettan curtain raiser (Super Cup) final after defeating Manduar United 2-1 during a game played at the Brikama Box-Bar Mini-Stadium.
Demob Marenah opened the scoring for Sanchaba United in the 46 minutes of the game, before Ousman Darboe doubled the lead in the 70 minutes. Omar Gassama scored the only goal for Manduar United in the 77 minutes of the game.
Speaking in an interview shortly after the game, Saloum Kujabie, head coach of Sanchaba Youths United, expressed joy of winning both the West Coast Regional trophy and Brikama nawettan curtain raiser final in a row, stating that this it is a great achievement for him.
“I will improve on my tactical game formation despite starting the nawettan proper with a trophy. Our aim is to also record another glory in this year’s nawettan tournament,” he said.
For his part, Lamin Bojang, head coach of Manduar United, expressed disappointment for losing the final adding that playing such a game is a difficult task especially, against experienced players.
“Our opponents capitalised on their chances after we failed on ours,” he lamented.
As winners Sanchaba United were given a giant trophy, gold medals and a cash prize of seventy-five thousand Dalasi (D75,000), while the runners up Manduar United were given silver medals and cash prize of sixty thousand Dalasi (D60,000).
Meanwhile, the final was graced by the president of Gambia Football Federation, Lamin Kaba Bajo, Dr. Ismaila Ceesay leader of the Citizens Alliance party amongst others.
