Mahaad Senior Secondary School male team was on Sunday crowned champions of the Senior Secondary School football competition after defeating Jamisa Senior Secondary School male team 2-0 during a final played at the Brikama Box-Bar Mini-Stadium.
Ebrima Jallow scored the opening goal in the 64th minute for Mahaad, before Sheriffo Bojang doubled their lead in the stoppage time of the second half.
Speaking in an interview with reporters, Omar B. Cham, head coach of Mahaad Senior Secondary School expressed delight at winning the Senior Secondary School championship, adding that his tactical formation helped him in scoring goals after analysing their opponents, Jamisa School.
“I explored the talents of my young frontline to win this game,” said the winning coach, Omar Cham.
For his part, Saidou O. Jeng, head coach of Jamisa Senior Secondary School said he is disappointed with the final result, adding that football needs good preparations.
“I considered unexpected goals in the game but I am hoping to strengthen my team for the regional school’s football championship,” said the coach.
As winners, Mahaad Senior Secondary School male team were awarded a giant trophy.
Meanwhile, both the winners, Mahaad Senior Secondary School and runners-up Jamisa Senior Secondary will participate in the Regional Schools qualifying round.
Elsewhere, Bottrop Senior Secondary School’s female team humiliated Mingdaw Senior Secondary School 7-0 during the female Senior School category final on Sunday at the Brikama Box-Bar Mini-Stadium.
Meanwhile, the Kunkunjang Keitaya Basic Cycle School male team thrashed the Presentation of Mary Basic Cycle School male team 5-1 in the Upper Basic School male category final.
Elsewhere, Presentation Mary Basic Cycle School female team defeated St. Mathias Basic Cycle School 2-1 in the Upper Basic School female final category played on Sunday.
