Caritas Gambia with support from CRS recently organised a stakeholders’ dialogue on social cohesion and peacebuilding in Kerewan North Bank Region.
The forum was used to solicit support and cooperation in strengthening peace and stability using 3B and 4D principles.
Denise Gomez Project Coordinator Social Cohesion and Peacebuilding project at CARITAS said the stakeholders’ dialogue is crucial in promoting and sustaining peace and stability irrespective of political and religious differences.
He noted that social cohesion and peacebuilding are fundamental in strengthening family ties. Gomez reiterated for institutions including youth-led organisations to intensify public awareness among the youthful population.
Haruna Kuyateh Focal Person also underscored the importance of reconciliation of differences irrespective of political and religion to embrace social cohesion and consolidate peace and stability.
He challenged religious leaders and political party supporters to support in strengthening social cohesion and boosting the advancement of the country.
Oustass Papa Jasseh of Kerewan and Aji Gass Lowe Women Bureau Focal Point in NBR said all religious leaders and women leaders should work hand in hand to promote and sustain peace and good family ties.
The duo used the moment to thank CARITAS and CRS for their tireless efforts of reminding stakeholders in advancing social cohesion practices, to bring about mutual understanding and solidarity. Therefore there is a need for Imams to use their gatherings to promote peace and stability.
