Scores of students at The Gambia College over the weekend lamented financial crunch to pursue their education at the college.
Mariama Gassama a student at The Gambia college narrated the ordeal most of the students are going through to pay for their tuition fees.
Speaking to this medium Mariama explained how most of the students go through to pay their school fees as some of them have other family matters to settle.
“The situation here is getting out of hand. It is high time the government looked up to us. Not all of us go out to the media to seek financial assistance but if you look at it, almost all the students that seek financial assistance are college students.”
Isatou Jallow, a student also revealed how one of her colleagues nearly dropped out of college due to financial constraints. “How do you even expect a student to perform well when he or she is thinking how to pay his or her debt. Sometimes some of them will sit home missing lessons because they have no other option which is sad,” she queried.
Ebrima Ceesay also a student who has a debt of eight thousand five hundred dalasi launched a fresh call for investment in the education sector in order to address the situation.
